Update on GCF’s non-profit status and ratification of new Club bylaws

  • Brian is meeting with a lawyer tomorrow (4/6/23).
  • Potential for GCF, as is, to dissolve and reform.
  • If bylaws change with a new nonprofit status, we will need to meet again and form a new board

Financial review

  • The club is healthy financially
  • We have a club financial breakdown available at the meeting

Pattee Canyon Projects

  • New pavilion at Pattee
  • Replace all picnic tables at the upper parking lots
  • Hoping to get GCF’s name on pavilion 
  • Pavillion hopefully this summer, but next summer at the latest
    • Part of the parking lot might be shut down
    • Great American Outdoor Act funded the pavilion
  • Approved for tee signs at Pattee.
    • Welded and powder coated
    • Planning to install them with baskets
      • Will have to pull a couple with ski trail consideration in mind
    • Hole number and distance
  • A discussion about wood tee pads at Pattee happened
    • No real updates, but has been talked about
  • David X. asking about blockers on wood tee pads. 

Blue Mountain Projects

  • Resubmitted realignment project at the end of last year
  • The course would be realigned with hole 13 becoming hole 1
  • Hole 3
    • Some limbing 
    • 4 or 5 trees removed
  • Hole 8
    • Will become a two-shot par 4
    • Potentially removing trees
    • White teepad would get moved to current basket location
  • Hole 9
    • Relatively open hole
    • About 430’
    • Teepad in meadow
    • Basket would get moved up into the flat
  • Hole 10
    • Evan B. asking about adding a short tee to hole 10
  • Hole 11
    • Jake M. asking about realigning white teepad on 11 forward
  • Hole 13
    • Conversation with FS to remove specific trees
    • Add a shorter tee 
  • Hole 15
    • Move to ZTO position permanently
  • New hole 16
  • Current hole 16
    • Potentially moving blue teepad about 60 feet back
    • Potentially having 3 tee pads at blue
  • Hole 17
    • Seth S. asking if pebble beach could come back
  • Hole 18
    • Would be removed
      • Erosion control
      • Discourage people from hiking straight up the hill 
  • Matt D. asking if meetings with the FS are documented
    • Has experience drafting documents and offered to help
  • WAM (wildfire action Missoula) is a blocker on realignment
    • WAM prescription determines which trees would get clipped
    • GCF has provisions in an agreement with FS to allow for some specialized projects with permissions
  • When the ground dries out, there will be a small crew that learns how to make a tee.
    • Follow up, there will be a large work party to install the bulk of the tees. 
    • Hope is to get most of the holes done in one or two days
    • Hoping to get 18 done now and then get the 9 done after. 
  • Tee signs are made and ready to go in, will have to wait for the realignment proposal to be confirmed. 
  • The realignment project has three more benches 
  • The parking lot project at Blue Mountain has been shelved by the Forest Service.
    • Forest Service higher-ups determined there are “too many” projects 
  • Natasha B. asking about potential bathroom additions
    • Brian said it’s unlikely, but he will bring it up with the Forest Service.

New Course projects

  • Nine Mile Ranger District got back to Brian about the Frenchtown course
    • Currently in the discussion stage
  • Tyler P. mentioned Lolo school is planning to move to the new school
  • Matt D. asked about Marshall Mountain
    • Brian confirmed that a disc golf course is not in phase one, but GCF will hopefully be in phase two
      • Phase two might be in five-ten years
    • City of Missoula is taking over a parcel of land

GCF events

  • Montana Memorial Cup
    • July 21st-22nd 
    • Always looking to honor someone
    • Two rounds at Blue, one at Pattee
  • Club Championship
    • October
    • Morning round at blue, afternoon at Pattee
    • Bag tag play tentatively on 4/20 or 4/27
  • City undecided about Folf in the Parks
    • Losing steam
  • Brandon K. mentioned that he’s been setting up a basket in the university area and said it’s been popular
  • Martin B. asked about setting up a booth at Brewfest 
  • GCF booth at the fair? 
  • Week of April 24th, Fort course is getting pulled
    • Discussion about hole 6 at being disrespected for DG use
    • Maybe a new hole?
  • The potential for a single basket in a FITP park, is low.

Zoo Town Open

  • June 4th set up
  • June 5th-June 11th course is closed to the public
    • Potential opening up of Pattee sooner
    • Potential FITP events
  • VIP tickets are sold out for Saturday and Sunday
    • Friday still has a few
  • General Admission 
  • Two temp holes between holes 8 and 9
    • Not playing Hole 12 or Hole 18
  • Trying to get canopies set up around the entire course
  • Volunteers needed
    • UDisc scores
    • Traffic control
    • Shuttle station/driving range coordinator
  • Spectators not allowed to drive to Blue
  • Hole 1 and 18 at the Fort rented out and will go there to get picked up
  • ZTO players pack going to the volunteers
    • GA access when not working
    • Non-scoring volunteers will get free lunch
    • Flippers potentially hosting a party after the event
  • Evan B. is the volunteer coordinator for ZTO
  • Some volunteers can drive to Blue, not all. Some might have to take a shuttle
  • What happens if there are no scorers?
    • Depends on the situation
    • Cards being assigned, unless volunteer can only work morning or afternoon
  • Halo X-cal drop will be on Innova Factory store
